For 2 Sundays in July, 43 private owners opened their gardens to the public in aid of the Sussex Beacon who were hoping to raise £12,000 for the centre in Brighton.
Entry fee was £1 per person to each garden and there were refreshments on sale at many venues. Both days had good weather and turnout was 40% up on last year. My own garden was graced by the Zimbabwean stone sculptures, by courtesy of AfricArt, who also hold stonecarving workshops throughout May of each year, during the Brighton Festival.
